WINNER – ReelAbilities Industry Script Pitch
Our first project, ARISE, is based on the remarkable true story about George Lane, a recovering drug addict, whose tragic car accident in rural Tennessee leads to him crawling up courthouse steps to face minor driving charges. When the judge knowingly doesn’t hear his case and he’s forced to come back, George refuses to crawl a second time, is arrested and thrown in jail. This once simple case then transforms into George and Bill Brown, his small town lawyer, becoming the unwanted leaders trying to save the Americans with Disabilities Act and the civil rights of millions of people with disabilities across the country. The above is a preview of when George and Bill first meet.
Disability is an issue that directly affects over one-quarter of all adults in the United States. Everyone probably either has or knows someone with a disability. And yet people with disabilities are often made to live in a world not designed for them.
